The events of Palm Sunday recorded in Matthew 21help us get ready to celebrate Jesus' resurrection from the dead but they also show us how to remain ready and strong in our faith when life throws us unexpected curveballs. Richard Nixon, Michael Phelps, Alex Rodriguez, Martin Luther King Jr., Solomon, Judas, Jesus. Some of these men did not finish the way they wished. The point of any mission is to defeat the enemy, rescue the prisoners, gain victory. When we go on mission with Jesus the goal is the same. When the Holy Spirit comes upon a person in their life it causes them to change directions and even change communities. The people who came to faith in Jesus on Pentecost experienced just such a change. What would it look like them to be a member in this new community? The disciples were about to have a similar experience as they waited upon the Holy Spirit that Jesus had promised. What were the strange things they heard and saw? Working out can be both a bummer and a blessing. You get to see great results but it requires a lot of sacrifice to see those results. What does it mean to do a "salvation work out"? No one likes to lose. Winning isn't everything...its the only thing! If you hate losing an argument then you and yours spouse will be arguing a lot. If you don't want to back down from your teenagers request than you will be at odds most likely. Still--someone has to win don't they? Paul uses the example of Jesus Christ to show us that losing actually makes you a winner and that humility is the winning team to be on.

Most would agree that even with all its issues the U.S.A is the greatest country in the world in which to live. There are many privileges and benefits to being a citizen of the United States but there are also requirements and responsibilities. Paul teaches us in his letter to the Philippians that true joy in the Kingdom of God is found in unity, belief, fearlessness, and suffering.

Confidence is an important thing for people to have in life.
