It’s also a time of year when we are faced with the decision to serve one of two empires: the empire of consumerism, materialism, malls, stores, and on line shopping or to serve the empire of the Kingdom of God where we spend less, give more, love all, and worship fully through sacrifice and becoming poorer so that others might become rich. Matthew 21:1-11

Have you ever found yourself ready and seemingly prepared only to find out that you aren't and weren't? As Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the week prior to His crucifixion, it was an atmosphere of celebration and coronation of a King who everyone thought had come to rule and reign and set things right that weren't right. However, God had another plan. None of those who followed Him were ready for what would unfold that week. They weren't ready emotionally or spiritually. The events of Palm Sunday recorded in Matthew 21help us get ready to celebrate Jesus' resurrection from the dead but they also show us how to remain ready and strong in our faith when life throws us unexpected curveballs. Palm Sunday teaches us that being ready to obey, ready to praise, and ready to trust in all circumstances are vital to our love for God remaining strong.

Some call God by the name ‘Allah’ and others by the name ‘Jehovah’ and others by many other names, but there is only ONE GOD, regardless of how He is addressed. All religions have the same goal, namely, to get to God, and it doesn’t so much matter what a person believes, as long as he is sincere and believes he is doing right in his heart. Eventually we will all end up in the same place. Does it really matter what you believe? How can you know that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life? We’ve also provided the attached document to help you answer this question.

Light has an interesting effect. Light brings happiness and joy into our lives. Just think how you feel when the sun comes out! Light can also bother us. Just think what it feels like to stare into the sun. Jesus said He was the light of the world. Does it bother you to think that Jesus wants to expose your life with His light? Does it bring you great joy to know that nothing in your life or heart can be hidden from Him? In John 8, Jesus has a woman caught in adultery brought before Him. Through this encounter with her and the crowd standing by, we learn “principles of the Light” and how Jesus wants to keep us from the darkness.

As Paul goes on his third and final missionary journey to spread the good news of Jesus, we learn the two most important things needed to finish strong in our relationship with God and His call upon our lives.

The second missionary of Paul would allow the Gospel to go even more global than it had in the first journey. What challenges would this present? How would God use strategic global positioning to further the Gospel? How is being blocked from doing something in life a good thing? How are you at deferring to the will of God when it means your own plans must be discarded? These are all questions the Lord asked of Paul, Silas, and Timothy on this second missionary journey and the continued globalization of the Gospel.

In every worthwhile mission, there are obstacles, challenges, and moments when you must sacrifice everything for the sake of the mission. The mission of spreading the Gospel to a broken world is no different. The early church was faced with serious threats to the spread of the Gospel as their own were killed because of the mission. How do you know when you’re on mission with Jesus? What are the signs? Is there ever a point when we abandon the mission?

Peter was willing to be mobile for God and left the comfortable and the known to go encourage some Christians in a place he didn’t know. The resurrection of Jesus proved a man could be raised from the dead. Saul was the Charles Manson of his day. Most would say Saul had the same chance of becoming a follower of Jesus as someone had of rising from the dead. In Acts 9Saul is confronted by the resurrected Jesus and his life was changed forever. There is nothing like a movie about an unstoppable force like Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Rocky, and other heroic figures. Many people like the sequel to these movies better than the original. When Jesus Christ was crucified and died, people thought His work in the world had been stopped. What they didn’t’ know is that it was only the beginning. They didn’t realize that they were dealing with an Unstoppable Force. The book of Acts is the sequel to the work of Jesus Christ and shows us that the church today is Jesus working in the world in a different way. Listen and learn about the greatest sequel ever made. There is a downloadable handout for this message that explains the sequel---the ministry of the Holy Spirit--in our lives.

Daybreak Community Church's mission statement is to "Live out mercy and ministry in the community and in the world". The reason we believe in living out mercy is because we have received so much mercy from Jesus. Today you'll hear from a man who has his own story of needing God's mercy and receiving God's mercy in his life.

The Christmas Story teaches us that sometimes the greatest gift you can give is to go from rich to being poor because sometimes in your poverty others become rich.

Matthew 1:18-25

What was God’s answer for the world’s problem? Was it material or was it personal? How does the truth that Jesus was “God with us” effect or worship at Christmas? Did Jesus give us presents on the first Christmas or presence? Which is most important? What would it look like for us to worship Jesus at Christmas by focusing on presence instead of presents?

Matthew 2 - 1 John 2:15-17

Do you realize that there is an empire that threatens our worship of Jesus at Christmas? What does it take to resist that empire? How did Jesus resist the empire He was born into as a baby? Do you know what the 3 pillars of the empire are? Matthew chapter 2 tells us a compelling and dramatic story of an empire of wealth and power coming against a Kingdom that has no end. How can we worship Jesus more fully this Christmas by resisting the empire?

What does it mean to get ready for Christmas? Is Christmas for you one hour of your time on a Sunday at church for some songs and a short reading from the Bible and the rest of the time you’re getting ready for the next big sale? What would it look like if you didn’t just read the story of Christmas but you entered the story? What would it mean if you spent less, gave more, and worshipped Jesus more fully this Christmas? The Advent Conspiracy is where Christians come together to conspire and restore the true meaning of Christmas—Worship.

"Directions V" - Living Servants

What is the most effective way to influence people for Jesus? Is it with our words? Is it with our works? Is it both? What did Jesus save you for? Someone once said, "Preach the Gospel at all times....use words if necessary". Being a "Living Servant" means that you live in such a way that you are ready to give your life away to your brothers and sisters in Christ and to the world at any moment. Living a servant lifestyle means you are willing to serve with your time, talent, and treasure in whatever way God asks you to and in any location. As we do this, the world around us will want to know why we do the things we do and we will get to use our "words" to tell them. But, we must first begin by telling them with our lives.

"Directions III & IV" - Living Mercy and Living Community

"Living Mercy" for the Christian means all relationships and locations are as sacred as the church building we meet in on Sunday morning. We become the fragrance of Christ and people get to smell what Jesus is like by seeing what we are like. "Living Community" means Christians go beyond surface relationships and share everything together--needs, burdens, sins, possessions....everything. These are the directions for life for the Christian who follows Jesus and these are the "Directions" for Daybreak Community Church.

"Directions I and II" - Living History and Living Forward

Part one of a six part series covering the shared values of Daybreak Community Church. As we embrace these values together we're able to accomplish and experience all that God has for us as His people. Our history as the people of God has led us to believe in and hold on to truths that determine the way we live our lives. We also are challenged to step into history ourselves and ask God "how can you use me right where I am?" just like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and others stepped into a given point in history as God offered them the opportunity to be used by Him.
