Walmart, Costco, Amazon. We certainly know how to give presents each Christmas. Is it the right kind? Jesus gave us a different kind of gift when he left heaven to bring the right kind of presence into our lives. How should the gospel affect the kind of gifts we give at each other at Christmas?

Advent is a time of year when the people of God prepare their hearts for the coming of Jesus to save them from their sins. It’s also a time of year when we are faced with the decision to serve one of two empires: the empire of consumerism, materialism, malls, stores, and on line shopping or to serve the empire of the Kingdom of God where we spend less, give more, love all, and worship fully through sacrifice and becoming poorer so that others might become rich. Which kingdom will you serve this Christmas season?

Acts 19
Richard Nixon, Michael Phelps, Alex Rodriguez, Martin Luther King Jr., Solomon, Judas, Jesus. Some of these men did not finish the way they wished. Others wouldn't compromise on leaving an honorable legacy. What does it mean to finish strong? What sets apart those who do and those who don't? As Paul goes on his third and final missionary journey to spread the good news of Jesus, we learn the two most important things needed to finish strong in our relationship with God and His call upon our lives.

The second missionary of Paul would allow the Gospel to go even more global than it had in the first journey. What challenges would this present? How would God use strategic global positioning to further the Gospel? How is being blocked from doing something in life a good thing? How are you at deferring to the will of God when it means your own plans must be discarded? These are all questions the Lord asked of Paul, Silas, and Timothy on this second missionary journey and the continued globalization of the Gospel.

Does your past define you? What about the problems of today? What do you do when the future overwhelms you and you feel as if you’re in way over your head? Moses had similar questions. He felt like he was in way over his head and was sure that the mistakes of the past were standing in the way of his future. Moses life serves as a great example of how God shows up when we are in way over our heads.

Before you take a test, it's very important to review the most important information if you want to pass. What you learn in the review will be what you need to survive the test. As Paul comes to the end of his third missionary journey, he has several experiences that capture the important things learned through this series in Acts. Reviewing these principles will ultimately protect us and make us successful as we continue on in the mission with Jesus.

Acts 27
Going on a mission to accomplish something incredible is exciting. This is certainly true when you're talking about going on a mission with Jesus to save the world. However, on every worthwhile mission there are also obstacles, challenges, and sometimes storms that seem impossible to sail through. How do we get through those storms? How do we make it through the difficult times of life where following Jesus seems impossible and we tell ourselves it might just be easier to jump overboard? Paul faced just such a storm as he traveled from Jerusalem to Rome to appeal his case to Caesar. What can we learn from Paul about making it through storms in life?

Acts 21-26
As Paul returned to Jerusalem from his last missionary journey rumors surrounded him and he was faced with lots of questions about his life and ministry all because of a desire to live out the Gospel the way Jesus did. He was misunderstood, accused of being a person he was not, and mistreated. Jesus suffered a similar fate. If we live out the Gospel, what does that mean for us? What does it mean to become all things to all people that we might win some for Jesus? Are we willing to take the risk like Jesus and Paul did?

In every worthwhile mission, there are obstacles, challenges, and moments when you must sacrifice everything for the sake of the mission. The mission of spreading the Gospel to a broken world is no different. The early church was faced with serious threats to the spread of the Gospel as their own were killed because of the mission. How do you know when you’re on mission with Jesus? What are the signs? Is there ever a point when we abandon the mission?

We live in a world where we are constantly evaluated by what we do to be considered a favorite in anything. The right job resume, the right clothes, belonging to the right group of people, and even the right religious do’s and don’ts. What makes someone God’s favorite? Are you one? Why? Are God’s standards different than ours? How does the answer effect the spread of the Gospel? In Acts 10a man named Cornelius is confronted with the need for something more in his life and Peter is faced with the same thing. They both will discover what makes someone God’s favorite.

Peter was willing to be mobile for God and left the comfortable and the known to go encourage some Christians in a place he didn’t know. He soon found out that God’s plans were much greater than his plans all because he was willing to be a Mobile Christian.
The After Life
Easter reminds us that Jesus has saved those from certain death, who have put their faith in Him. We have had a near death experience. When a person has had a near death experience they normally come out of it with a passionate desire to see every day lived to its fullest and to its greatest potential. They want to make their life count! What does a person’s life look like who is making their life count? What do they learn? What is worth their time and investment? What do they communicate about their near death experience to others? Who do they serve?
Daybreak begins a new 4 week series entitled “The After Life-The Truth about life after death”. We will focus on what the life of a person who has been raised from the dead looks like in very practical ways as they pursue and follow Jesus. Come and join us and invite a friend!

They didn’t realize that they were dealing with an Unstoppable Force. No one likes to lose. Winning isn't everything...its the only thing! If you hate losing an argument then you and yours spouse will be arguing a lot. If you don't want to back down from your teenagers request than you will be at odds most likely. Still--someone has to win don't they? Paul uses the example of Jesus Christ to show us that losing actually makes you a winner and that humility is the winning team to be on.

Philippians 1:27-30
Most would agree that even with all its issues the U.S.A is the greatest country in the world in which to live. There are many privileges and benefits to being a citizen of the United States but there are also requirements and responsibilities. Are there requirements and responsibilities to being a citizen of the Kingdom of God? What are they? Are there also privileges? Paul teaches us in his letter to the Philippians that true joy in the Kingdom of God is found in unity, belief, fearlessness, and suffering.

Philippians 1:12-26
Sometimes it can be tough to see in life? What do you do when life becomes a fog due to suffering, trials, and unrealized expectations? Does God still want to use you during those seasons of your life or do you have to wait until everything is "better" again? The apostle Paul teaches us what is most important to remember during these times so that our suffering isn't wasted.

Philippians 1:1-11
Confidence is an important thing for people to have in life. If you're not confident in the economy, your spouse's loyalty, or your future as a young person, you're left to feel very insecure and possibly hopeless about a bright future. Confidence is also important when it comes to having a relationship with God. What happens when your relationship with God isn't going well? What happens when Christians around you seem to never grow up into maturity? How confident are you that you or they will ever really change? In the beginning of Paul's letter to the Philippians, he gives us the answer to where our confidence should be and who and what we should be putting it in?
